"In sum, Gedeon Nyanhongo is a second Generation
Zimbabwean sculptor whose work is essentially grounded in
real memories, events, and experiences. He has also enhanced
the presentation of the traditional subject matter, and
simultaneously created new forms that break the conventions
of the late 50's to mid-80's Zimbabwe. He has carved an
entirely new philosophical and aesthetic ground-one that
deals with the contradictions of the rural and urban life
style of the 90's Zimbabwe, and one which offers the stark
realities of day to day life instead of the mythology of the
past. Gedeon's work spells a new era of creativity for the
second Generation; one which will no doubt rival the
prescience of the forerunners of Zimbabwe's stone
sculpture." -Tony M. Mhonda, Art Critic (Zimbabwe
Herald), Associate Editor (Southern Africa Art), and former
Deputy Head of Exhibitions
