Fred Otnes fuses modern collage
with disparate formal elements to form a unique and highly personal
dialog with the viewer. Antique bookplates might be juxtaposed with
magazine clippings and bits of fabric to form a field of subtle tonal
variation. Or plaster fragments may be pastiched in a recombinatory
allusion to classical sculpture. Otnes paints in a way which refers
and reconstitutes his view of art. His work possesses a depth and
breadth that is quiet and reassured and always fulfilling.
